Clarkstown Police Charge Congers Man In New City Office Break-In

NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Police have arrested a man who broke into a North Main Street Office on Saturday, Dec. 26.

Jonathan Vilches, 19, of Congers was caught burglarizing a building after a security guard noticed him from a remote camera at home.

At 10:45 PM, the Clarkstown Police Department responded to a report of a burglary at 151 N. Main St. in New City. 

An employee, a 71-year-old male from New City stated that his surveillance system motion sensor activated while he was at home, notifying him of a possible break in at his office. 

Using his remote camera system, he observed a man in his office going through his desk. Responding patrol units responded to the scene and during their search of the building, the suspect was apprehended without incident. 

During the search, officers found a tire iron that was believed to be used to gain access to the office. The suspect, Jonathan Vilches, 19, of Congers was arrested and transported to police headquarters. 

He was charged with burglary 3rd (felony) and possession of burglar tools (misdemeanor). Vilches was arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court. Bail was set at $1000 and he was transported to Rockland County Jail. He will return to court on December 28, 2015 at 1:30 PM.
